The Australian GFAA Junior Team fished in the recent Bay of Islands International Yellowtail tournament and did exceptionally well.

Wilson Fishing was lucky enough to help out the Juniors with a custom built Live Fibre TX game rod each for the light line event.

The following is a short summary from the event by Kevin Oates - a key organiser of the Austrlaian team.

There were 6 Junior Teams fishing in total and our Aussies blitzed them.

Day 1 - Chloe Hammersley from Tasmania landed a Kingfish of 20.95Kg on 6Kg tackle, this was the heaviest fish  captured on the day by a Junior and Senior angler. As it turned out, it was the heaviest overall Fish weighed for the four days. It won Chloe numerous awards including the prestigious Laurie Peel Memorial award.

Sharna McKinnon from Mount Gambier in SA also weighed in a Snapper of 2.9Kg

Day 2 - Wil Cunningham from Traralgon in Victoria fought a  large kingfish for 1 Hour 20 mins only to have it break off 30 metres from the boat. The rest of the team had lots of bust offs.

Day 3 - Wil finally got one but it would not quite make line class so it was tagged & released. His Brother Levi also caught 2 but they were under the legal T&R & Measure lengths so they were released. Chloe had more success with one landed late morning weighing 15.8Kg and another after lunch weighing  6.45Kg both on 6 Kg lineclass.

Day 4 - There were lots of bust offs in the shallow waters & the only fish weighed was another ripping Snapper for Sharna which weighed in at 7.15Kg on 6Kg lineclass.

Overall they had  a ball, they were the overall winning  Junior Team with Chloe winning many individual awards.
