Texalium is a revolutionary new composite
re-enforcement, the woven twill fibres
are actually aluminium sublimation
coated (a high
tec procedure for bonding
aluminium into a twill weave). This integration
provides durable, non-corrosive blanks. Adding
Texalium to a specific range
of Live Fibre blanks has further improved
their strength,
feel & durability.
The new Texalium rod series
is undoubtedly the most radical product to come
out of the
Wilson factory in years. Not only
do the Texaliums look different from traditional ‘glass
or graphite rods, they have very different
actions. In a complex process, aluminium coated
twill fibres are bonded in to Texalium, resulting
in blanks which are lighter, stronger and
more sensitive than Wilsons’ original
Live Fibres. The rods have a distinctive braided
silver appearance then transform to black
for the remainder of their length.
At the present time, there are 20 rods in the Texalium range, beginning with
a great seven foot light spin stick suited to lines of between 2-4kg. There are
six more spin models - two at 6’6”, two at 7’ and 2 at 8' -
built for line classes from 4kg to 24kg. The big gun threadline model (RLFTX19S)
is the ants’ pants for throwing serious lures at creatures like giant trevally,
tuna, kings or oversized Spanish macks and will fish 50lb braid to the hilt.
A trio of 5’6” strokers for 10, 15 and 24kg will keep stand up enthusiasts
happy and there are also three longer overheads for lines between 10-24kg. Now,
also featuring a four model BaitCasting series ranging from 2kg to 8kg. All rods
in the Texalium range are nicely bound in contrasting gold and black and feature
Fuji components. Those who enjoy fishing with no nonsense, fast action blanks
would be well advised to check them out.
